How to publish a web page for your Class

Assumptions of Prior Skills: I assume that you can
Use some MS Office Program
Use a web browser
Understand directory (folder) structures in MS Windows
You will need to use your laptop today, so we need them all here, plugged into the Internet, and plugged into the wall.
Vocabulary:
HTML: The type of file that you see on the web (like this page.) If you care, HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. Hyper Text refers to any page of text that has links in it.

Web Server
First, create a page of HTML. (note: you will do this every time you update your web page.)
Start some MS Office program. This can be Access, Excel, FrontPage, PowerPoint, Publisher, or Word. I will use MS Word as an example, but it you prefer another program I can come around and help you.

Second, to download WS-FTP 95 LE: (note: we will only have to do this the first time)
A. Open a web browser
B. Go to http://www.ZDNet.com.

C. Click on Downloads

D. Type in “WS_FTP LE” and click on “GO”

E. Scroll Down

F. Click on “Download Now” next to the 32-bit version

G. Wait…

H. When the window appears, click on “Save” and save it to your desktop.

I. Click on the “ws_ftple” which appears on your desktop.

Alternative to A-I: If we have not been able to download this, I have it on mini-CD-R disc.
J. Click on “Install WS_FTP LE” and “Continue”

K. Click on the box saying that you are a government school teacher, then click “next.”

L. You will be using this program at least at school for academic use. After you have selected your usage options, click “Next.”

M. Accept the license agreement.

N. Click “OK,” “OK,” “YES,” and “OK,”

Third, start WS_FTP. (note: you will do this every time you update your web page)
A. Go to: “Start,” “Programs,” “WS_FTP Pro,” and “WS_FTP95 LE.”

Fourth, enter your user name and password into WS_FTP LE, and ask it to save the password. (note: you will only do this once.)
Click on “New.”

Enter the following information:
Profile Name:
Host Name / Address:
Host Type: Automatic detect
User ID:
Password:
Account: <blank>
Comment: <blank>
Save Password: Check
Fifth, upload your web page.
A., Click “OK”

Wait…Some things will fly past the bottom of the screen.

You are connected! If anyone is not here, then PLESE ASK FOR HELP NOW!

On the left (your-laptop-side), click on “ChangeDirectory.”

Type in “c:\Windows\Desktop” and click “OK”

Repeat the last few steps On the right (web-server-side) (note: I need the directory.)
Click on the file you wish to upload, and click on the arrow pointing from your laptop to the WEB SERVER. This will UPLOAD the file to the WEB SERVER.
